No member of CUPP has withdrawn -PPA Chairman
CUPP
By Emmanuel Oloniruha
Abuja, July 11, 2018(NAN) Chief Peter Ameh, National Chairman, Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) said none of the 39 political parties that signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the Coalition of United Democratic Parties (CUPP) has withdrawn its membership.
Ameh, an incumbent coordinator of the coalition, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that the clarification was important following a press conference held in Abuja by some political party announcing their withdrawal.
He said that names of the political parties mention claiming to have withdrawn were never mentioned in the coalition, formed to rescue Nigeria.
He described press conference as mischievous act and attempt to discredit the credibility of the CUPP.
Ameh said it was needles and an act of mischief to disassociate themselves from the agreement which they were never signatory to.
He challenged the political parties to list the 22 parties denouncing the MoU saying `` just nine Political Parties calling themselves 22.’’
``The listed party were never Part of the agreement from inception and were never invited to any of them to meetings where discussions and deliberations were held.
``Nigerian journalist should do thorough investigation. None of the Parties that signed the agreement has withdrawn his support, I repeat non.’’
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and 37 other political parties and groups on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form CUPP.
The aim of the coalition was to produce a presidential candidate that would defeat that of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general election and later form unity government.
Ameh said that over 50 political parties were consulted but only those convinced on idea of the coalition signed the MoU to that effect.
``It is dishearten to see political parties now going to the press to denounce a coalition they were not signatories to.
``You cannot denounce or poll out of agreement that you are not signatories to.
``This is an act of deceit and with the intention to misinform the general public for cheap Political point.’’
Ameh said it was unfortunate that the leadership of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) wanted to use CUPP as a pivot to stardom to gain National attention or recognition which it so badly needs.’’
Ameh said there were political parties they would have envisaged to join the coalition due to their progressive inclination but their leadership couldn't be reached.
He apologised for the inclusion of Socialist Party of Nigeria (SNP), describing them as party of young zealous people who in their own wisdom were genuinely concerned for the good of Nigeria.
``They are concerned about our people but are too inexperience to see the danger ahead that if there is no Nigeria they cannot have SPN.
``SPN should not have inflated opinion of themselves that we are using them to achieve credibility. Where is the so called credibility?
``What have they produced? What is their track record, are they in control of any Local Government? Certainly no.
``Our aim here is to drop every self-centred agenda to safe our nation and we think SPN would see this.
``Since they didn't see it we accept the error and tender our sincere apology.
However, if in the nearest future they come to terms with our core objectives to rescue Nigeria then we will welcome them with open hands.
Ameh said that the Coalition also appreciated the understanding of Providence Peoples Party (PPC) and it's leadership who were also mentioned.
``We hope that as soon as we can reach them, they will see reasons with us on the need to rescue Nigeria for the sake of our yet unborn generation.
``They have acted in the most mature way despite the wrongful mentioned of their Party's name.’’
He assured that parties and all well-meaning Nigerians with the good intention for the progress and development of Nigeria interested in the rescue mission would surely be accommodated.
``They will be given a seat on the table because we believe that all hands on must be on deck.’’(NAN)
